The Lancaster Skill Share Collective is a local organization dedicated to teaching a wide range of self-sufficiency skills in free community workshops. Our objective is to help our neighbors reduce waste, save money and adopt more labor conscious lifestyles.

Our workshops have covered a wide variety of topics such as sewing, canning, bike maintenance, home brewing, homemade baby food, cloth diapers, wild edible plant identification, medicinal herbs, small scale urban gardening, soap making, green cleaning, composting, vegetable oil powered vehicles and more.

We held four weekend-long series of free workshops at Kevin Lehman’s Pottery Studio, 560 S. Prince St. before moving to Eastern Market to begin a series of weekly workshops during market hours, Saturdays 9am-2pm at 308 E. King St.  (

We are now in the process of setting up an open calender system where workshop leaders can volunteer to set up classes in the location of their choice. If you are interested in leading a class please contact us at with your name and contact information, your availability, a description of your class, your level of experience and the location in which you’d like to host your class. If you are willing to teach a class but can’t host it we may have a space to offer.  Thanks for sharing!

The Lancaster Skill Share Collective is excited to announce an expansion of its partnership with Eastern Market ( Lancaster’s Eastern Market is a farmers market founded in 2006 at the site of the historic 19th century market building at 308 East King St. It was created to support local farmers by providing a low-cost marketing venue and supply city residents of all income levels an opportunity to purchase fresh, local and affordable foods. Over the course of the past year, Eastern Market and The Lancaster Skill Share Collective have shared resources in order to help disseminate money and resource saving skills through free community workshops. Beginning in early June 2011, Eastern Market and The Lancaster Skill Share Collective will begin hosting such workshops on a weekly basis, covering topics such as small scale urban gardening, composting, food preservation, fermented foods, sewing, printmaking, bike maintenance, homemade baby food, wild edible plant identification, and much more.  If you have a skill to share, email us at
